Janome Sewing

Janome sewing machines are perhaps not the best known on the market, but they have a very loyal following.

By consistently offering machines with cutting-edge technology, they have built a solid market share over the past thirty years, and their users are definitely sold on the product.

In 2008, Janome America, Inc. manufactured its 50 millionth machine – an impressive feat by any standard.

The Janome Sewing Machine Company, Ltd. is a Japanese company, selling sewing machines in over one hundred countries around the world.

Founded in 1921, the company now boasts eight plants, all in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, and has subsidiaries in nine countries throughout Europe, North America, South America, and Australia/New Zealand.

The word janome means “eye of the snake” in Japanese and was chosen as a company name in honor of the new, round-bobbin technology that was adopted in the 1930’s.

Janome was the first company to mass produce sewing machines in Japan and has been growing ever since.

In 1960, Janome entered the American market with the purchase of The New Home Sewing Machine Company. Janome America is now the largest of the company’s subsidiaries.

Janome is very proud of the fact that they released the first programmable, computer sewing machine in the world in 1979.

They followed this up with the first in-home embroidery sewing machines, changing forever the resources available to crafters interested in embroidery.

In 2008, Janome Sewing released the Memory Craft 11000, a machine specifically designed for the quilting market. Its features have attracted the attention of many in the craft world.
