The Mini Sewing Machine – Not Just For Kids
While browsing through a sewing machine retail or fabric store, you may see a line of miniature machines and think that they are for children.
Believe it or not, this isn’t necessarily the case. Although there are miniature sewing machines designed for children, some manufacturers produce their mini sewing machine for adults.
Why on earth would an adult want a mini sewing machine? There’s quite a few reasons actually. Especially for people who regularly take classes to learn more sewing techniques, a miniature can come in handy.
They are much lighter than standard machines and therefore easier to carry and transport.
Plus, they only cost a fraction of the price of a regular machine. So if something happens to it, you may not have to pay as much out of pocket to have it repaired or replaced.
A mini sewing machine is also a great option for people that need to do quick repairs or adjustments “on the spot.”
If you’re helping out with a school play, you never know when disaster may strike Juliet’s dress, making a repair immediately necessary in order for the show to continue.
The same goes for marching band and color guard uniforms. Especially in middle school and high school groups, the students are more likely to accidentally rip or tear their uniform and need a quick repair before the show or competition starts.
Since most school band programs rely on parents and volunteers to help with uniform alterations, and since it’s getting harder and harder to find someone that can do alterations, you could just become a much needed helper with a local band program.
Even if you don’t travel, you may still want a mini sewing machine. They’re a great option for beginners since they are an extremely affordable option and have all the basic functions of a standard machine.
Plus, if you wanted to learn how to sew but then decided that you didn’t have as much time or patience to devote towards the hobby, you won’t feel like you wasted a lot of money.
In fact, after learning the basics, you may appreciate having the mini sewing machine around for those rare instances where you need to repair something.
