Sewing Table

When you spend a lot of time at your sewing machine, having the proper sewing table is paramount for your comfort and health.
If you have a room dedicated to crafting, or a place where you will set up your machine permanently, spend time making the decision about what kind of table to get for your sewing machine.
Of course, the ideal set up is to have a table manufactured specifically for your machine. These specialty sewing machine tables are created to be the perfect height ergonomically, with spaces for the machines, along with storage drawers and cubbies.
They have enough surface area to spread your fabric across freely, and there’s a dropped space for your sewing machine, so the free arm sits perfectly in alignment with the surface of the table.
They sound perfect, don’t they? So what’s the downfall? Price.
These tables are quite expensive. However, if your budget can handle it, and you’re going to be spending hours at a time in front of your machine, it is worth every penny.
Like I said, you need the right kind of table for your health. This is the same reason companies are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars outfitting their offices with ergonomically tested desks, chairs, and split keyboards.
When you’re sitting for hours at a time on a regular basis, your back and joints can suffer greatly. This goes for your sewing table, too.
You need to make sure that your arms are held at a comfortable height, and your feet are hitting the floor at the right angle.
Having your limbs askew or stretch for long periods of time will pull certain vertebrae out of alignment, and as anyone who has dealt with this can tell you, it is painful.
Having a misaligned spine can contribute to joint pain, headaches, and even stomach cramps.
So, even if you can’t afford one of these custom sewing tables, at least shop around for a small desk that fits the bill – right height, and a large enough surface area to hold your machine plus fabric draped over it. Your body will thank you!
